Examinations

Amateur Radio Licence Examinations are run by the EMDRC on an as required basis. Examinations are normally held after a scheduled course or by request at the EMDRC club rooms 13a McCubbin Street, Burwood. To sit an exam you will need to register with the EMDRC’s Learning Organiser giving at least 2 weeks prior notice. Please email Learning Organiser, at learning@emdrc.com.au, for all bookings.

Students are to visit the ACMA web site, and download the syllabus for the appropriate level, as well as all the material for the Regulations exam.

The Foundation Licence

This is the basic level licence, to obtain this license you will need to pass a 25 multiple choice written exam and a hands on practical assessment.

The pass mark for the written exam is 70% and time allowed is 30 minutes.

You must however pass 100% of the practical component (its not as difficult as it sounds)

The Standard Licence

This is your next step up the ladder, to get a standard licence you will need to pass.

1. A 50 question theory multiple choice written exam pass mark is 70% and time allowed is 60 minutes.
2. A 30 question regulations multiple choice written exam pass mark is 70% and time allowed is 30 Minutes
3. If you have not already passed a practical assessment you will be required to pass this also.

The Advanced Licence

This is the top level exam to pass this you will need to pass.

1. A 50 question theory multiple choice written exam pass mark is 70% and time allowed is 90 minutes

2. A 30 question regulations multiple choice written exam pass mark is 70% and time allowed is 30 Minutes.
(If you hold a standard license and you are upgrading to Advanced you do not need to sit the regulations again)

3. If you have not already passed a practical assessment you will be required to pass this also.
